Confusion is not of God. When my mind finds it self dredging up lame arguments against God’s Word I find myself wondering through halls of excuses. It is not until I come to the conclusion to just “plain ol’ obey” the Holy Spirit and the direction of God’s Word that peace comes. Ease doesn’t come. Peace does. Strength to do a hard thing for the sake of Christ …and for Him alone.
It is so easy to surrender to being liked, being a “cool Christian”…accepting everyone and everything for the sake of “love.” True love is not always “soft, comforting, warm” most of the time it is a stinging antidote to a lie that we have believed. It does not make one feel better immediately. It can be tough medicine to swallow but it works. In time repentance is brought forth as the poison of self deceit is drained by submission to the truth. The confusion clears and you know what to do next because you have set your heart to obey His precepts and not your own way.
Many saints of old have felt fear when on the brink of sincere, complete obedience and yet they trudge on in the truth. They did not turn aside to lies when they didn’t understand. They simply obeyed. The didn’t listen to any voice but God’s. We have examples of Abraham in offering His only son; David in fighting a giant; Moses in confronting Pharoah; Joshua in conquering the promise land. Jesus in fighting the temptation in the wilderness and ultimately dying on Calvary. The juxaposition of how “God’s Ways are Not Our Ways.” is so clear …except when we do not have a heart to simply obey.
So what is God whispering to you today in your heart? What has He said this past week in the voice of a pastor? What has He shouted at you through the very words of Scripture? It IS better to obey than to sacrifice. Do it, whatever it is, (and you ’know’ what it is) today.
